Brought to you by your Cultura hosts - the Livingston Diversity Council & the Livingston Arts Council, Cultura Connects is a new series celebrating the rich traditions, flavors, and stories behind the cultures featured at Cultura. Each of these intentionally curated, culturally immersive experiences will invite you to engage all of your senses through food, movement and art.
These incredible opportunities will be offered three times per year, each program centering on a different culture, allowing participants to connect, learn and appreciate our global community.
Join us for the third and final program in the 2026 series featuring Native American & Indigenous Traditions!
For this special event, we have partnered with the North American Indian Association of Detroit (NAIA) to share the culture and traditions of the Anishinaabe, Ojibwe and Chippewa peoples. Through traditional dance, meaningful cultural experiences, and delicious foods, guests will have the opportunity to connect, learn, and celebrate. Attendees will also be invited to participate in dance and create their own artwork inspired by Indigenous traditions to take home as a reminder of this unique cultural experience.
Our first stop in April 2026 landed us in India where participants celebrated the vibrant culture of India! All enjoyed flavorful Indian cuisine, learned energetic Bollywood-style dance moves, and created their own Diya bowls - a traditional lamp used during holidays like Diwali, the Festival of Lights.
Our fantastic & authentic tasting menu was provided by AGs Authentic Indian Cuisine in Brighton and included traditional selections from the lighter spice palette: butter chicken, paneer tikka masala (vegetarian), basmati rice, garlic naan, and a selection of chutneys.
Our second stop in July 2026 celebrated Taiwan through an immersive celebration inviting guests to experience the rich culture and traditions of Taiwan through food, art, music, and movement. Guests enjoyed a delicious tasting of Taiwanese-inspired dishes and bubble tea while exploring traditional arts through calligraphy, woodblock printing, a Dragon Boat Festival sachet activity, and other hands-on cultural experiences.
Throughout the event, performances featuring Tai Chi, Guzheng, Erhu, Pipa, piano, and the Dance of Deity Nezha showcased Taiwan’s diverse artistic heritage through music, movement, and storytelling. This fun, interactive, and flavorful event offers people of all ages an opportunity to discover, experience, and celebrate Taiwanese culture together.
